Scion xA Aftermarket Accessories & Upgrades

Scion xA was a five-door hatchback subcompact marketed in the US from 2004-2006 — as an export model of the Japanese Domestic Market Toyota ist. Based on the first generation Toyota Vitz hatchback, the xA shared a platform with the Toyota Platz sedan.

The xA received a minor facelift for the 2006 model year, before importation ended in December 2006. The xA's successor, the xD was delivered to US dealerships beginning in August 2007 as a 2008 model.

Some of the revisions for 2006 include modified bumpers and side skirts, as well as turn signal indicators on the side mirrors and audio controls located on the steering wheel. The xA was also the first production vehicle to offer an optional iPod input with head unit display, as well as a more refined, user-friendly head unit and more exterior colors.

Release series
Beginning in late spring 2004 with the launch of the 2004 Scion xB RS 1.0 (Release Series 1.0) Scion decided to create limited edition vehicles pre-packaged with exclusive accessories in limited quantities. Limited Edition vehicles from a marketing standpoint were used to create a buzz for the brandname, with their exterior colors tending to be loud or bright hues (i.e. orange, yellow, red, blue, green). Because of the growing popularity of the Scion product line and the scarce production runs (most dealers only got 2-3 of each RS model), these limited edition vehicles quickly sell out. Preordering is available at each dealership on a first-come, first-served basis. To the customer's benefit, Scion's "Pure Price" MSRP binds dealerships against market-demand vehicle mark-up. Naturally, resale values of Release Series vehicles command a premium because of their packaged options and scarcity.

2005 xA RS 1.0: Available only in Absolutely Red, standard equipment included a sports grille and color-keyed rear spoiler, power moonroof, and vehicle stability control (VSC). Only 1,550 units were produced.

2005 xA RS 2.0: only available in Spectra Blue Mica with 1,700 units produced

2006 xA RS 3.0: only available in Stingray Metallic light blue with 2,500 units produced

    xD_partsguide

    parts_catalog

The Scion xD is a five-door hatchback subcompact marketed in the US by Japanese automaker Toyota beginning with the 2008 model year — replacing the xA. The Scion xD and the second generation xB were first shown to the public on February 8, 2007 at the Chicago Auto Show. The new xD appeared at Scion showrooms in summer 2007.

    US Calendar Year Sales
    2007 10,948
    2008 27,665

    Features
The Scion xD comes standard with power locks, mirrors, and windows, and 16" wheels and tires. The vehicle also has ABS, cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and side curtain airbags as standard features. The only factory installed option is Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRAC).

For 2008, a choice from three new head units made by Pioneer are available. All sound systems feature six speakers and standard iPod connectivity. The base head unit has MP3, WMA, and AAC CD compatibility, and Scion's SSP equalizer presets, as well as orange lighting. The Premium head unit has all the features of the base unit, but also has a small LCD that can display pictures and movies downloaded from Pioneer's website in addition to the features on the base unit and has two different lighting schemes, blue and orange. A navigation system is also available. The SNS 100 system can play DVD movies in addition to GPS functionality and the features of the base system, aside from the backlit color choices.

    Engines
    The front-wheel-drive xD comes with the 2ZR-FE DOHC 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with dual VVT-i that makes 128 bhp (95 kW) and 125 lb·ft (169 N·m) of torque. It can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. The 2008 United States Environmental Protection Agency‎ mileage is estimated at 26 mpg-US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg-imp) city and 32 mpg-US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg-imp) highway.

    Similar models
The xD is a second-generation Toyota ist; the first was marketed in the U.S. as a Scion xA. It is essentially a mildly elongated five-door Toyota Vitz. The Vitz is a three door marketed in the U.S. as the Yaris. Thus, the five-door Yaris was not offered in the U.S. market when the three-door and sedan were launched; however, as of 2009, the five-door Vitz will be offered in the US as the Yaris. The xD features the same sliding and reclining rear seat that is optional on the Yaris three-door. Unlike the Yaris and xA/first generation Ist, the xD's instrument gauges are located behind the steering wheel (as opposed to being centered atop the dashboard). But, the speedometer and the tachometer are on the same dial counterrotating.

    Release Series
Similar to other Scion models, the xD adds Release Series limited edition models for each model year. Because of the scarce production runs (most dealers only got 2-3 of each RS model), these limited edition vehicles quickly sell out. Preordering is available at each dealership on a first-come, first-served basis. To the customer's benefit, Scion's "Pure Price" MSRP binds dealerships against market-demand vehicle mark-up.

2008 xD RS 1.0: only available in Hot Lava Orange with 2,000 units produced.

Scion xB Parts & Accessories Guide

    parts_catalog

The Scion xB is a vehicle made by Toyota for the United States market and sold under their youth-oriented Scion brand. It is a box-shaped, 5-door compact station wagon.

    US Calendar Year Sales
    2003   6,936
    2004 47,013
    2005 54,037
    2006 61,306
    2007 45,834
    2008 45,220

    First Generation (2004-2007)
The first-generation xB was a lightly-modified and rebadged version of the Japanese-market subcompact Toyota bB. It was a small station wagon based on the Toyota Echo/Yaris platform. The xB was one of two models in the lineup of Toyota's US-exclusive Scion division present at the brand's 2004 launch, the other being the xA, based on the Toyota ist.

First generation xB vs. first generation bB

Only the first generation models for both the xB and bB are related. Second generation models are based upon different platforms.

To create the first generation xB, the bB was modified from right- to left-hand drive, the front passenger area was also changed significantly with the bB's front bench seat replaced with bucket seats and the column-mounted shifter changed to a floor-mounted shifter.

The available drivetrains also differed. The bB was available with either the 1.3 L I4 2NZ-FE engine or the 1.5 L 1NZ-FE, mated exclusively to a 4-speed automatic transmission with available all wheel drive. The xB was only available with the 1NZ-FE that produced 108 hp (81 kW) and 105 lb·ft (142 N·m) in US spec, but offered both a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission. All-wheel drive was not offered on the xB.

The Toyota bB was not equipped with a spare tire. On the Scion xB, a compact spare tire was stored under the left side of a raised rear cargo floor. Since the spare tire raised the cargo floor by several inches, a storage bin was added to the right of the spare tire to reclaim some of the lost storage space. A jack was stored under the driver's seat of the xB.

The Toyota bB had a pull-out storage tray under the passenger seat that the xB lacks.

The bB began production in 1999, five years before the introduction of the xB, which was first sold for the 2004 model year. Sales of the bB ended in 2005, one year before the first generation xB ended.

    Safety
The Scion xB received a Good overall score in the IIHS frontal offset test, all measured categories in this test were also rated Good. The xB was given a Poor overall score in the side impact test. The xB did not offer side airbags.

    Second Generation (2008-present)

The Scion xB is styled as a 5-door version of the t2B concept unveiled at the 2006 New York Auto Show. Toyota unveiled the production xB at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. Manufactured for Toyota by Kanto Auto Works, Ltd., the new xB is less boxy in shape and larger than its predecessor. The 2008 xB is 2.8-inch (71 mm) wider, 12-inch (300 mm) longer (including 4-inch (100 mm) longer wheel to wheel) and over 600 pounds (270 kg) heavier than the first-generation xB.

    The second-generation xB is powered by a 2.4L engine shared with the tC and the Toyota Camry, which adds about 50% more power, but at 22 mpg-US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg-imp) City / 28 mpg-US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg-imp) Hwy[5] also has a higher fuel consumption than the previous model's 1.5l engine (26 mpg-US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg-imp) City / 31 mpg-US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg-imp) Hwy using the new 2008 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fuel economy standard).

A five-speed manual and a sequential-shift four-speed automatic are the only factory options aside from the color and stereo. The second-generation Scion xB is not a rebadged Toyota bB like the first-generation model, but instead was designed based on American buyers "wants" based on the Corolla Rumion in Japan.

A choice of three new head units are available on all 2008 Scions. All sound systems feature six speakers and standard iPod connectivity. The base head unit has MP3, WMA, and AAC CD compatibility and Scion's SSP equalizer presets. The base unit can also be set to any of three Scion model presets (xB, xD, or tC) and includes an "Automatic Sound Levelizer" feature that automatically increases the volume as the vehicle speed and ambient noise increases. The Premium head unit features a small LCD that can display pictures and movies downloaded from Pioneer's website in addition to the features on the base unit. A navigation system is also available. The SNS 100 system can play DVD movies in addition to GPS functionality and the features of the base system, aside from the backlit color choices.

    Safety
All xB's come standard with four-wheel ABS, driver and front passenger dual stage airbags, front seat-mounted side torso airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and a first-aid kit.

The Scion xB is given an overall Good score in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety frontal offset crash test. And another Good overall score in the side impact crash test, all nine measured categories are also rated Good. The IIHS has given the xB its Top Safety Pick award.

Car And Driver magazine rated the 2008 xB as one of the top ten safe vehicles under $25,000

    Scion marketing
The Scion xB's marketing is aimed at Generation Y, Americans born between 1980 and 1994. This group of car buyers is extremely important to manufacturers due to their large numbers (78 million) and their differing perceptions and demands of the vehicles they drive.

Although Toyota expected the xA to sell better than the xB, the reverse proved to be true, with the xB outselling its brother 2 to 1, possibly due to the xB's distinctive styling, and the xB's unique combination of van-like cargo and passenger space with a very compact size. The latter features appealed to buyers outside the target demographic who were looking for a thrifty but roomy vehicle as a substitute for a more mainstream minivan.

The xB, like the xA and tC, was also available in a "Release Series" for each of its model years. These came with limited-edition paint colors, matching seat colors, and special modifications such as DVD players, custom tail lights, special wheels or wheel covers, and other accessories, along with special badging indicating the serial number. Limited Edition vehicles were, from a marketing standpoint, used to create a buzz for the brand name, with their exterior colors tending toward loud or bright hues (i.e. orange, yellow, red, blue, green). Because of the growing popularity of the Scion product line and the small production runs (most dealers only receive two or three of each RS model), these limited edition vehicles quickly sell out. Preordering is available at each dealership on a first-come, first-served basis. Scion's "Pure Price" program requires dealerships to sell the vehicle at the advertised price. Naturally, resale values of Release Series vehicles command a premium because of their packaged options and scarcity.

  • Scion tC Aftermarket Upgrade Guide  ( 1 item )

    parts_catalog

Scion tC is a compact car introduced by Japanese automaker Toyota in 2004 as a concept car under its recently introduced Scion brand name. Toyota later debuted the production tC at the 2004 NAIAS with sales beginning in June 2004. The Scion tC is generally considered Toyota's successor to the Celica whose production ended with the 2006 model year. The name tC does not fit in with its stablemates the xA, xB, and xD, because the name xC has already been taken by Volvo for its XC60, XC70 and XC90 models. According to Scion, tC stands for "Touring Coupe."

The Scion tC was designed to appeal to the Generation Y market. They hoped to do so by making standard features numerous and optional features extremely easy to add. The Scion tC uses the chassis of the Avensis which is sold in the European market, and the Camry's 2.4 L 2AZ-FE I4 engine. Its low price (base MSRP of US$17,000 for the 2008 model) is a major feature, as well as the pure pricing marketing style that Toyota has adopted.

    2008 Scion tC Design Refresh
The Scion tC received a subtle makeover for 2008, with changed front and rear lights and enhancements to the interior. The grilles changed from a honeycomb style to a metal drill out style on top and a three line plastic bar style on bottom. In the interior the seats inserts changed from blueish gray to white. Also the LED's changed to a deeper orange-red color. Side curtain air bags are standard on 08 and up.

    Release Series Line

Beginning in late spring 2004, Scion launched the Release Series (RS) line, limited quantities of their current vehicles pre-packaged with individual numbered badging, exclusive accessories, and other special features. Limited edition vehicles from a marketing standpoint were used to create a buzz for the brandname, with their exterior colors tending to be loud or bright hues (i.e. orange, yellow, red, blue, green). Because of the growing popularity of the Scion product line and the scarce production runs (most dealers only get 2-3 of each RS model), these limited edition vehicles quickly sell out. Preordering is available at each dealership on a first-come, first-served basis. To the customer's benefit, Scion's "Pure Price" MSRP bounds dealerships against market-demand vehicle mark-up. Naturally, resale values of Release Series vehicles command a premium because of their packaged options and scarcity.

    Toyota Racing Development

Similar to many other models of Toyota/Lexus/Scion, there are many upgrades available through Toyota Racing Development (TRD). From as basic as oil caps to performance oriented parts including the TRD sport muffler and TRD Supercharger, there is a multitude of opportunities for tC owners to customize their vehicles. Some of these parts can help increase the power of the vehicle, where others complement the handling and braking aspects of the car. These parts are available at Scion dealers, as well as online on TRD's website.

The TRD supercharger is capable of putting out 30 psi, although when installed by the dealership and under warranty it is set at 6 psi. Starting in 2008, Scion began making the supercharger with tamper proof pulleys.

    Motorsports

With the demise of the Toyota Celica, the Scion tC is now used for the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race held during the Long Beach Grand Prix, beginning in 2006.

There are several drag racing Scion tCs, the most prominent of which is raced by Christian Rado.

There will be a rear wheel drive Scion tC competing in the 2008 D1 Grand Prix. The car will be powered by a tuned BEAMS 3S-GE engine, and will be driven by Ken Gushi.

For the 2008 Formula Drift year, RS*R converted a Scion tC to drive as a RWD car. This was done by using the Toyota Avensis chasis (which the Scion tC is based on and is originally an AWD platform) and converted it into a RWD car.

For the 2008 KONI Challenge season, Dan Gardner and Craig Stanton are driving a Scion tC in the Sport Touring Class.

2009 a Supercharged TC will be entered into the SCCA WorldChallenge Touring Car class by Marshall Pruett Motorsports Engineering / Modified Magazine
